Handprints is a collection of storybooks, workbooks, and teachers’ guides designed to help young children in Grade K to 1 develop early literacy skills. There are a total of 120 storybooks in this program (divided into 12 sets with assorted Reading Levels A to J and Reading Recovery Levels 1 to 18) that give learners practice reading connected text. - Handprints Level D storybooks are D for students whose reading skills are developing toward independence, have a larger sight word vocabulary, and most likely reading words in a phrased and fluent matter
- Sentence structures progress from a child’s natural language to a more sophisticated “book language”
- High-frequency words are used repeatedly to build a strong sight vocabulary while black-and-white illustrations support text but are intentionally not perfectly matched to text
- Storybooks D Teacher’s Guide (free to download) provides the educator with before-during-after activities, writing suggestions, and support for promoting active reading and comprehension
- The Handprints series can easily be integrated into any existing reading curriculum and will help your youngest learners gain confidence with letter knowledge, phonemic awareness, and hands-on reading practice
